Dining Destinations: The Polynesian’s Kona Cafe

Breakfast at the Polynesian’s Kona Cafe has been on my Disney bucket list for years so when I was making reservations for my birthday weekend at Disney, Kona Cafe was the first thing I booked!

To get to the Polynesian from All-Star Sports for our 9:05 reservation, we had to catch the 8 o’clock bus to Magic Kingdom and then hopped on the boat from there to the Polynesian resort. I highly recommend making reservations for Kona Cafe. We got there right on time and still had to wait a few minutes to be seated.

We looked at the menu beforehand and knew exactly what we wanted to order when we sat down. We both started with the mimosa flight for $14 each. You can choose three juices from the list of orange, pineapple, cranberry, and liliko’i (aka passionfruit). I got orange, pineapple, and liliko’i and Jared got orange, cranberry, and pineapple.

We both agreed the pineapple mimosa was delicious, but by far the best mimosa was the liliko’i. It was so sweet and had the best flavor. They do offer a regular size liliko’i mimosa for $11.25, but I think next time I would still get the flight so I could get the pineapple mimosa too.

To eat, Jared order the Polynesian Egg Platter and I ordered Tonga Toast, which I had heard so much about on Instagram. The Polynesian Egg Platter is two eggs any style with fresh fruit poke, a muffin, home-fried potatoes, and a choice of spiced ham, bacon, or sausage. The Tonga Toast is banana-stuffed french toast rolled in cinnamon and sugar, served with a strawberry compote, and a choice of spiced ham, bacon, or sausage.

Jared loved his egg platter and didn’t even have enough room to finish his muffin so you definitely get the bang for your buck. The Tonga Toast was HUGE! It was at least three inches tall and was basically a cube. It was so delicious for someone with a sweet tooth like me and I could have finished it all, but then they brought out a surprise dessert sampler platter for me since it was my birthday! I was thrilled, but eating the desserts meant I had to miss out on the last few bites of my Tonga Toast.

The dessert sampler had macarons, chocolates, and rice krispie treats. Everything was so good and fit the Polynesian theme with hints of coconut in some of the dessert pieces.

We rarely stay the weekend at Disney since we’re so close so we don’t often get a chance to try breakfast on property, but I will definitely be making a return trip to Kona Cafe for breakfast!
