New Year’s Goals

I’m big on goal setting – it’s the enneagram Type 3 in me (No clue what I’m talking about? Take the quiz and find out what type you are). So naturally, I really get into the goal-setting mood as January 1st approaches. I decided to share the goals I set (I prefer goals to resolutions) at the start of 2019 and whether or not I achieved them. At the end I included my goals for 2020 – tbd on what I actually manage to achieve this coming year!

2019 Goals

  • Reach the Pure Barre 100 Club by my 1-year barre anniversary
    • I was so proud of myself for accomplishing this one! I thought this would be an easy goal to achieve because I was going to barre 3-5 times a week. That is, until I broke my foot in March (with my 1-year barre anniversary approaching quickly in August). I had to take a break from Pure Barre for about 2.5 months so I really had to go every possible day I could squeezing classes into my schedule to reach 100 by August. However hard it was, I did it! And I have the 100 Club socks and tank top to show for it.
  • Get engaged
    • This goal was not met this year. There’s a lot I could say on this, but I’ll spare you (everyone I work with at Charley’s hears it enough). Let’s just say here’s hoping to check this one off the list in 2020 I guess…
  • Master backing in to parking spaces
    • Check! I actually started working on this one at the end of 2018 and it was easier to do than I thought. I can now confidently back into parking spaces and brag about it to the rest of my family (all of whom have backup cameras).
  • Read the Game of Thrones series
    • I was reading another book at the beginning of 2019 and wasn’t able to start the Game of Thrones series until March. I only managed to get through one and a half so far, but they’re so good that I’m going to keep trucking along. They’re such long books, but it’ll be worth it. I’ll be carrying this one over to 2020.
  • Master a good haircut for Jared
    • When Jared gets his hair cut he always just gets it one length all the way around so to save him money, I bought some trimmers and do it myself now. I wanted to teach myself how to do an actual haircut with multiple lengths, but honestly I didn’t even attempt it. At least he likes it buzzed, right?
  • Go somewhere I’ve never been
    • Checked this one off the list! I think this is a good one for anyone to put on their resolutions list because it doesn’t have to be anything crazy. You could go somewhere in your hometown that you’ve never visited before. For me, I counted going to Winter Park, Colorado for this one because it’s a part of Colorado we’ve never been to before.
  • Go to the beach at least once a week over the summer
    • This one went really well…for about a week. I’d say the rain in Florida kept us away most weeks, which is at least half true. My mom and I were going to be in this one together and obviously we did not keep each accountable. You’d think we’d be able to do better living 20 minutes from the beach, but you would be wrong. We’re not even going to attempt this one in 2020.
  • Get caught up on scrapbooking by the end of spring break
    • I actually did this one! And then got behind again immediately following spring break… I submit my scrapbook to the arts and crafts portion of the Manatee County Fair every January so it’s always a mad rush to get my scrapbook of the year done before the submission deadline. As of right now I’m still working on October of this year so fingers crossed I can somehow get it done in time.
  • Go to Disney at least once a month
    • This was by far my favorite goal I set and the most fun to achieve! It started by accident and then a few months into the year I realized I’d been to Disney at least once a month so far and i made it my goal to keep it up. Sometimes I went by myself for a few hours on a weekday, sometimes Jared and I went and did one lap eating and drinking at Epcot before heading home. I definitely got my use out of my annual pass this year!

2020 Goals

  • Get engaged
  • Buy a house
  • Get a full time teaching job
  • Finish reading Game of Thrones
  • Reach the Pure Barre 250 Club
  • Record one second every day
